In 1987, Giuliana Rosset, a Valle d'Aosta resident whose family owns the region's oldest distillery, Saint Roch, acquired Green Sport Monte Bianco, a small backpacking company, from some artisans in Turin. It moved its headquarters to the outskirts of Aosta, to Quart, where it initially began producing backpacks and suitcases with fifteen employees and then expanded into sportswear where bright colors were abandoned. Consulting old books and maps of Northern Europe, the idea for the brand Napapijri was born, a name derived from an inappropriate pronunciation of napapiiri, a Finnish term meaning polar circle. The Norwegian flag is then sewn onto the jackets, and the logo is black and white, half positive and half negative, to give an idea of ​​the North and South Poles.
